Growing up in a small town just outside of Sacramento, CA, Scotti Bishop is no stranger to obscurity; he actually enjoys it. However, with everything he’s done so far in 2017, he might have to learn how to live in the spotlight (whether he wants to or not).
Inspired by the lyrics of Kurt Cobain and Bob Dylan, Scotti Bishop discovered his affinity for music at an early age. Growing up in a working middle class environment, he spent most of his time listening to grunge and punk rock acts such as Nirvana, Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy, and the Arctic Monkeys. The angsty, loud, and rebellious music of the alternative genre resonated with Scotti. It was around this time that Bishop took an interest in poetic, and often abstract lyrics. Over time this interested turned into more of an addiction, Scotti claims this was the catalyst that caused him to start thinking about writing songs of his own.
Although he had always had a love for Hip Hop, it wasn’t until his freshman year of high school that Scotti developed an obsession for the culture, and the music, the same way that he did with alternative music in his younger years. Bishop’s influences then began to shift from grunge/punk rock
bands, to rappers such as Jay-Z, The Game, Kanye West, and many others. After losing himself in rap, Scotti began writing songs as a way to alleviate some of the tension he had been dealing with at home, and in his personal life.
Never one to be close-minded, Scotti drew influence from an eclectic palette of artists rangingfrom: ASAP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad, Mac Dre, Al Green,Led Zeppelin,Johnny Cash, and even non-musical creatives like Salvador Dali and Jackson Pollock. That diversity is part of the reason for Scotti’s abstract approach to music. Whether it’s the lyrics of Bob Dylan and Kurt Cobain, the vibe of Al Green and Donny Hathaway, or the surrealism of Salvador Dali, Scotti manages to pull inspiration from all sides of the spectrum.
7 years later, Scotti Bishop has polished his artistry, and created his own sound with characteristics not shared by many artist in the current landscape of music.Today, Scotti is continually releasing new music along with working on his debut EP that is slated to drop early 2018.
